1 〔草が生い茂っているようす〕

●ぼうぼうたる草むら clumps of grass running wild; a thicket growing rank(ly)

・ぼうぼうと thick(ly); rankly; rampantly; luxuriously

・ぼうぼうと生える grow thick and wild; be rank

・草ぼうぼうの空き地 a piece of vacant land overgrown with weeds.

●庭には草がぼうぼうと生えている. The garden is overgrown with weeds.

2 〔髪･ひげなどが伸び放題になっているようす〕

●ぼうぼうと 〔手入れせずに〕 unkempt, untrimmed; rugged; 〔乱れて〕 shaggy

・髪をぼうぼうとのばしている have long unkempt [shaggy] hair

・ひげぼうぼうの大男 a giant of a man with a shaggy beard [shaggy whiskers].

●その男はひげをぼうぼうと生やしていた. The man had a shaggy beard [shaggy whiskers].

3 〔火が激しく燃えるようす〕

●火がぼうぼう燃えていた. The fire was burning briskly.
